Unlike catnip, which often excites cats, valerian acts more as a relaxant, helping cats feel calm and at ease. It can be especially useful during stressful situations, such as vet visits, moving, or loud events. Additionally, valerian may aid in alleviating mild sleep issues or restlessness in cats. Some studies also suggest that valerian has mild muscle-relaxing properties, which can be helpful for older cats with discomfort or joint issues.  If unsure, consult with a veterinarian before introducing valerian into a cat’s routine to ensure safety and proper use.
